HP, Stewards of the Tech Morgue, Buys Humane and Takes the Pin Out Behind the Shed
February 18, 2025
The AI Pin didn’t die—it just lost cloud access and forgot how to live.
Per the Verge, HP is buying Humane and shutting down the AI Pin.
AI Pins that have already been purchased will continue to function normally until 3PM ET on February 28th, Humane says in a support document. After that date, Pins will “no longer connect to Humane’s servers.” As a result, AI Pin features will “no longer include calling, messaging, AI queries / responses, or cloud access.”
A product so full of itself that it proclaimed to be the replacement for smartphones — dubbing itself a game-changing, screen-free wearable designed to handle calls, messages, and everyday tasks through voice commands and gestures. Created by ex-Apple execs Imran Chaudhri and Bethany Bongiorno, it promised a futuristic, privacy-first experience, complete with a laser projector that displayed info right on your hand. The idea was that AI would seamlessly anticipate your needs, making tech feel more natural and less intrusive.
But in reality, it leaned heavily on existing AI models (like ChatGPT) to function, and despite the hype, it never quite lived up to its ambitious vision.
